If there was one thing Sheyna was good at, it was pool. Her father had taught her when she was barely five, and on her tenth birthday he had bought a pool table for the recreation room that she and her brothers had been playing on ever since.

So the fact that she hadn’t been able to make a straight shot all night had her frustrated.

She was up two balls, when she should have beaten her cocky opponent a long time ago.

She was bent over the table, planning her shot when Jace said, “Care to place a bet on it?”

Sheyna scowled then stood upright and frowned at him. “Don’t you see I’m trying to concentrate?”

“My bad.” He chuckled.

“What do you have in mind?” she asked. He knew there was no way she could resist a challenge.

“If I win I get to kiss you again. If you win, I’ll let you off the hook this weekend and let you go to Las Vegas alone.”

“Are you serious?” she gasped with disbelief. The audacity of this man!

He nodded his head and grinned. “Have I ever lied to you?”

“Not since sixth grade when you told me Carlos Lennox was waiting for me to ask him to the Sadie Hawkins Dance.”

He chuckled, and she joined in at the memory. Jace had known how crazy she had been about Carlos so as soon as she’d spotted him in the hall she had asked him to the dance.

Carlos started laughing and told her he already had a date. She’d turned around to find Jace and three of his dumb friends standing next to their lockers laughing at the childish joke. She had spent the evening in her bed crying her eyes out.

“So what’s up? Do we have a deal?” he asked, breaking into her reverie.

She watched him with a critical squint. “Why do you have to kiss me?”

“Are you saying you don’t like my kisses?”

She wished she could lie but he would see right through it. Nervously, she moistened her dry lips. “I didn’t say that.”

He lowered his beer bottle and took a step toward her. “Good, then does that mean we have a deal?”

She resisted the urge to step back away from the magnet pulling her toward him. The last thing she wanted him to know was that she was afraid of what she was feeling when she was around him. “I’m not having a fling with you,” she said with a defiant tilt of her chin.

Jace held his hands up in surrender. “Hey, I didn’t say anything about a fling. All I want is another kiss. I won’t do anything that you don’t want to do.”

That was the problem. Her body yearned to see where those kisses would lead them.

Since he had carried her into her house Sunday night all she could think about was having his lips on hers. That was why she didn’t need him kissing her.

He gave her a stubborn look. “I guess if you don’t lose then you have nothing to worry about.
